The new hemodialysis center in Elbasan

By April, hemodialysis is offered under high quality conditions at the Elbasan Regional Hospital, ending the sufferings of patients with chronic renal failure. Although hemodialysis ward in this hospital was open since 2005, at his disposal it was placed only a small room, where due to lack of equipment, service was offered in four shifts until after midnight.

No investment in infrastructure, no investment in equipment had degraded this service. “We had to go three times a week in Tirana, now we have it here”, says one of the patients. Another praises the hygiene, but also the food diet given to the sick. It is a similar situation as in other centers, where after investments made, hemodialysis is offered today in Vlora, Shkodra, Lezha and this month in Korça, near their homes. This investment has completely changed not only the conditions of service, but the concept, turning into a multifunctional center that offers these patients also other medical and laboratory services. The center is equipped with 27 machines, one of the world’s leading brands in the field of hemodialysis. An other innovation is the use of dedicated filters according to the specific needs of each patient. Currently in Albania service is provided free to patients in 1050, says the Health Minister Ogerta Manastirlliu, but this number will increase in the future.
